Mississippi Youth Compete for Youth of the Year

On Friday, February 17, 2017, seventeen youth representing Boys & Girls Clubs from across the state will vie for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Mississippi Youth of the Year.  The winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and advance to the regional competition.

The competitors and the runners-up to their local Club Youth of the Year will arrive in Jackson, Mississippi, on Wednesday and will begin presenting their portfolios and speeches to the judges on Thursday. Thursday caps off with the youth and chaperones participating in one of three Community Service Projects in Jackson: Stewpot, Mississippi Food Network, and the Children’s Hospital.

The state winner for Military Youth of the Year and Youth of the Year will be announced during a luncheon at the King Edward Hotel on Friday. These state winners each will win a $5,000 scholarship and the opportunity to compete in the regional Youth of the Year in June. Runners up receive scholarships of $2500 and $1000.

The Youth of the Year competition honors outstanding young people. The National Youth Event is sponsored by Disney, Toyota, University of Phoenix and Taco Bell Foundation.
